The Louvre houses one of the world's largest and finest art collections. Built in the 1200s as a fortress and expanded in the 1500s as a palace for French nobility, it became a museum in 1793 and has been incrementally renovated ever since. The Grande Gallerie is the main picture gallery of the museum. It was and is one the great sources of motivation to thousands of artists of African heritage during the past hundred years. Art standards depicted by the old European masters are all about men and women inspired to believe and see. We hope that many thousands more gifted and talented souls will generate wonders for all of us to behold; and, pursue the challenge of integrating "the least of us" in a better world that includes them.
